    Prof Maravanyika appointed RCU Vice Chancellor

    MASVINGO - Professor Obert Maravanyika is back in town.
    Prof Maravanyika who was the first Vice Chancellor of the Great Zimbabwe University in the same city in Masvingo is back as the new Vice Chancellor of the Reformed Church University.
    His appointment is with effect from August 1, 2018.
    He replaces Prof Wiseman Magwa who left the University to join MSU in November 2017. Maravanyika's appointment was made by the University Council through Dr Augustine Mazvuru who is the chairman of the University Council.
    "Professor Maravanyika is now the Chief Executive Officer at the RCU whose mandate is to provide institutional leadership and oversight, develop and drive the vision, mission, strategy and act as chief advocate and principal ambassador of the University", said Mazvuru.
    In terms of experience in the academic area, Professor Maravanyika is a holder of PhD in Curriculum Analysis from the University of Zimbabwe (UZ). He started his university career as a junior lecturer at the same University in 1979 and worked his way through the ranks to Associate Professor from 1992-2012 and full Professor from 2012.
    In administration, Professor Maravanyika was a Department chairman at UZ from 1982-1986, acting deputy dean, acting Pro Vice Chancellor at the UZ from 1999-2002, acting Vice Chancellor at Masvingo State University (MASU) from 2002-2005 and Vice Chancellor at Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) from 2005-2012.
    In the early 90s to the present he has been associated with RCU and was the chairman of the university foundation committee and a member of its first council.
    In his response, Maravanyika said his efforts will be geared towards the development of a University with attributes which include a university that is well governed reflecting the time honoured values associated with reputable universities the world over which include intellectual curiosity and culture growth.
    He also urged RCU members to work together.
    "We need to work together in coming up with partnerships with various stakeholders who can actively get involved in many facets of university life including infrastructural development for the university", said Maravanyika.
    The event was attended by the RCU Chancellor, Dr Reverend Rangarirai Rutoro,  RCZ secretary general Reverend Charles Juro, Council chairman Dr Augustine Mazvuru, Acting Vice Chancellor Reverend Dr Enos  Chomutiri and the University management.
