    Nyajena man charged for pledging daughter (14)

    RENCO – A man from Murira Village under Chief Nyajena has appeared in court facing a charge of pledging and receiving lobola for his 14-year-old daughter.
     Josia Chibwereshe (40) appeared before magistrate Peter Madiba at Masvingo on Monday facing charges of pledging a female person as defined in section 94 (1) (b) of the Criminal Law and Cordification Act.
    Chibwereshe as a lawful custodian of the complainant unlawfully entered into an arrangement whereby the complainant was promised in marriage to Newman Manyika.
    It is the State case that on August 28, 2018 a report was made by Chibwereshe at ZRP Renco to the effect that Manyika had sexual intercourse with his daughter. Manyika was charged with having sexual intercourse with a young person and a docket was opened.
    As the Police were investigating the case they received information from Renias Marapira, a member of neighbourwood watch committee that Chibwereshe had since received a bull as bride price from Manyika.
    Marapira said Chibwereshe received the bull on August 16, 2018 in the presence of Crispen Vurayayi who acted as the middle man.
    Manyika stayed with the pledged juvenile since April 2018 to August 24, 2018.
