MASVINGO - Admore Hwarare, the secretary general of the Commercial Sugarcane Farmers Association (CSFA) was booed on Monday when he pleaded with the new Minister of State for Masvingo for allocation of fresh sugarcane plots to his members at the just completed Tokwe – Mukosi Dam.
President Mnangagwa recently put in place a policy barring multi-farm ownership and ironically Hwarare pleaded with Chadzamira for bigger plots at Tokwe Mukosi for farmers who already own sugarcane plots in Chiredzi.
Hwarare said his members owned 10 hectares each and he wanted them to have 50 to 100 hectares at Tokwe-Mukosi because they have farming experience.
He was speaking at Civic Centre at the appointment party for Chadzamira.
"We are happy and pleased with your appointment mambo (king). We have been in the sugarcane industry for more than 20 years yet we still have 10 hectares of land each. We hope that when you begin parceling out the 50 and 100 hectare plots around Tokwe-Mukosi Dam, you will consider us first,
"Those who are still new to sugarcane farming can get our 10 hectare plots," said Hwarare.
The appeal was greeted with booing from the gathering
