CHIVHU - A prominent Chivhu taxi driver last week appeared in court on charges of kidnapping a 21-year-old tout and keeping hostage for seven hours during the night.
Bongani Mhlanga (32), who is being charged together with Watson Jonasi, a vendor pleaded not guilty to kidnapping Tadiwanashe Chipindu when they appeared before Chivhu resident magistrate Ngoni Nduna.
In his defence, Mhlanga told the court that he did not kidnap Chipindu, whom he worked with at the popular taxis rank known as Zvipipipi in Chivhu.
He claims that he merely interrogated the accused over his missing purse.
However, in his evidence, Chipindu told the court that he was forced into the Honda Fit motor vehicle that the accused had brought with his friends.
He said he was assaulted several times before being forced to dip his bare hands into a septic tank with raw sewage in search of the missing wallet.
