    Beitbridge pupils shine as Zim wins COSSASA games

    BEITBRIDGE - Tafadzwa Karyline Baloyi of Chaswingo Primary and James Ndlovu of the Seventh Day Adventist-run Luthumba Primary school have placed Beitbridge District on the map after they scooped gold medals at the just ended Confederation of Schools Sports Association of Southern Africa (COSSASA) games held in Namibia.
    The games were held from August 20-29 2018.
    Baloyi is the vice-captain of the Zimbabwean volley ball team while Ndlovu plays soccer and both are doing Grade 7.
    Chaswingo school head Lwaano Godfrey Nyoni confirmed the developments.
    The sports event had games which included volleyball, soccer, basketball, tennis and rugby for the under 13 and 17 age groups.
    Out of six countries that participated, Zimbabwe came first with 11 gold medals, 1 silver and 1 bronze. Namibia came second with 7 gold, 12 silver and 1 bronze medal. On third position was Lesotho with 1 silver and 1 bronze. South Africa had 1 gold whilst ESwatini (Swaziland) and Malawi had no medals. 
    Nyoni expressed his appreciation to The Mirror for running an appeal to well-wishers to raise funds for an emergency passport  for Baloyi.
    "The kids really made us proud. My special mention goes to The Mirror, NAPH, businessman Misheck Ndou, Roy Muleya, Robert Ramanzi, Prince Sibanda, Jabulani Makado, Eric Danda Mulaudzi, Elizabeth Ngwenya for their support in assisting our child Baloyi with the necessary travel requirements" he said.
    He also appealed to well -wishers to continue supporting less privileged students in all disciplines wether academic or sports so that they realise their dreams.
    The two pupils met the DSI after their return from the trip.
