    Council worker steals water pump for mother in-law’s medication

    SHURUGWI- Chester Nyebera (36) who was employed by Shurugwi Town Council in the garbage collection department in July this year has been sentenced to 315 hours community service for stealing a water pump. 
    In his defence before Resident Magistrate, Sangster Tavengwa, Nyebera said he stole the water pump which he later sold for $20 in order to buy medication for his mother in law who was not feeling well.
    It is the state case that on August 13 2018 at around 7pm Nyebera went to number 328 Makusha, Shurugwi and entered the yard and took a 6.5 horse power water pump, while his co accused Tawanda Musiiwa (18) had gone to fetch a blanket that was to be used to cover  the item. On August 15 2018 at around 12pm Police received information that Tichasvika Marume had bought a stolen water pump.
    Marume admitted to have bought the water pump from Nyebera, leading to his arrest. Nyebera also implicated his accomplice Musiiwa. The pump which is valued at $230 was recovered.
