CHIREDZI – A golden handshake in which formerChiredzi Town  Council chairman, Francis Moyo has received the council D4D Toyota twin cab that he used for official duty as an exit package has caused uproar in Chiredzi.
Residents see no logic in giving the former chairman a trend car for only $5 080 when workers at the broke local authority have gone for eight months without salaries.
The residents have since resolved to meet the Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, July Moyo to register their complaint.
Chiredzi Residents and Ratepayers Association (CHRRA) chairperson Jonatham Muusha said the decision to award a vehicle to a former chairman at such a low cost is criminal and should be challenged. He said they are organizing a trip to see the minister in Harare.
Efforts to get a comment from the Minister were fruitless as his mobile was not reachable but The Mirror is reliably informed that various outgoing council and municipality heads are also benefitting.
