    Beitbridge singer gets Pope’s blessing on wedding

    BEITBRIDGE – Beitbridge singer Thomas Chimbangu who has won accolades in Roman Catholic choir competitions received the Apostolic blessing from  Pope Francis when he wedded at St Joseph Primary School on Saturday.
    It was a highly blessed wedding for a humble man who is only a librarian at Mukaro High School in Gutu.
    Chimbangu's wedding to Lisa Makumucha of Chirumhanzu was graced by Masvingo Diocese head, Bishop Michael Bhasera who also led the mass.
    The Apostolic blessing is a special blessing given to Catholics by the Pope.
    Bishop Bhasera sought the Pope's blessings for the wedding because of Chimbangu's immense singing talent and his contribution to the Church through that talent. Chimbangu is also a decorated choir master. Bishop Bhasera is an avid follower of the Church's choirs and singing activities and is present at almost all Church choir competitions.
    The wedding couple was given a bible and a gold rosary. 
    The couple also received a certificate from Pope Francis which reads, "The Holy Father Francis cordially imparts the requested Apostolic Blessing to Thomas Chimbangu and Lisa Makumucha on the occasion of their Marriage with prayers for the happiness of their Christian life together."
    Chimbangu is a qualified librarian with a Higher National Diploma in Library Science and Information Technology.
    He did grade 1 to 4 at Beitbridge Mission (ELCZ) and went to St Joseph primary school in Beitbridge 2004- 2006 for grade 5 to 7.He went to Berejena mission for O'level from 2007- 2010 and A'level at Mutero high from 2011-2012 Makumucha did her primary and high school at Gokomere mission.
     "It is well known even at Rome that at St Joseph church in Beitbridge in Zimbabwe people are gathered for the wedding of Thomas and Lisa and Bishop Bhasera had written a letter to Pope Francis notifying them of a child who has a talent in singing and his plans of having a wedding and also asking for his blessing and Papa did not refuse and his acceptance is seen negwaro riri pano that was signed in Rome," said father Samson Mutsvanga holding the Papal blessing.
    Also present at the mass was Father Vincent Muzenda of Gokomere, Fr Alouis Mutoda of Mukaro Minor Seminary, Fr Raymond Mahefu of St Peter and Paul Cathedral, Fr Tawanda Chitumba of St Xavier in Ngundu, Fr Wilbroad Godzongi of Holy Trinity in Triangle, Fr Kudzai Bakuri of Good sherperd in Chiredzi and Fr  Samson Mutsvanga of St Joseph in Beitbridge.
