    Beitbridge robbers leave taxi driver tied in a cemetry

    BEITBRIDGE – Sifelani Charumbira (39) of Dulibadzimu in Beitbridge has been sentenced to 24 years in prison on five counts of robbery.
    His two accomplices Wilson Mukarati (26) and Thokozani Chikeikure (39) got away with 12 years each for the same counts. The matter was heard by Regional magistrate Mark Dzira.
    It is the State case that on March 22, 2018 at around 2 am, the accused persons went to Mashakada Business Centre and approached the complainant who is a taxi driver and hired him to go to White Lodge in Beitbridge.
    As the complainant drove towards the lodge one of the accused pulled the hand break and forced the car to stop.
    One of the accused person produced a pistol and ordered the complainant to move to the back seat and remain silent. The accused drove the car to Makakabule Beitbridge Cemetery where they ordered the complainant out of his vehicle and left him tied to a tree with shoe laces.
    The accused drove off.
    They used the stolen vehicle to rob foreign currency vendors at Total Service Station in Beitbridge after pretending that they wanted to do business. The complainants are Edmore Ndou and others.
    On the same day the complainants reported the matter to the Police and during investigations; detectives recovered the robbed Honda Fit dumped at River Range Mine at the Limpopo River bank.
    On the fifth count, they entered into another complainant's yard armed with pistols. One of the accuse who is known to the complainant remained seated in the vehicle.
    They robbed the complainant of US$ 200, Z $4 000, ZAR 30 000 and a Nokia 1208 phone all valued at $7 210 and nothing was recovered.
