SADZA – Chikomba Rural District Council has resolved to evict at least 24 families from Dongo Village near Sadza Growth Point to allow for the expansion of the urban settlement.
The area currently occupied by the villagers is for an industrial and commercial area for the Growth Point.
Chikomba RDC chairman Pardon Mudzimu said residents will soon be served with eviction notices but they will be allocated land elsewhere.
He said the population at the growth point is steadily growing due to a rise in home industrial activity hence the need to create more space for the settlement.
"The villagers have two options; they can either be moved or remain at their homesteads provided they have the capacity to transform their homes to meet standards required in an urban settlement. Those who can upgrade their homes to the required standards will not relocate," he said.
Mudzimu said Chikomba RDC council had applied for a town status for Chivhu hence Sadza will become the rural council seat if the town status is granted.
