CHIKOMBA- Thousands of Zanu Pf supporters were left in disappointment after President Emmerson Mnangagwa who was expected to address a rally at Liebenberg High School on Saturday last week failed to show up.
Mnangagwa was in Bindura on the same day where he addressed a rally at Chipadze Stadium.
So disappointed were the supporters that some left the venue before the rally ended after realising that Mnangagwa was no longer coming.
"I am sure the president was never scheduled to address the Chivhu rally but it was a tactic to encourage people to attend. If it was not the case, the supporters would have been advised earlier that the President was no longer coming," a senior Zanu Pf official told The Mirror.
The supporters, some of whom had come from as far as Marondera and surrounding provinces, told The Mirror that they had braved the Saturday chilly weather just to hear the party president speaking.
"Organisers of party rallies should desist from lying to coax people to attend party meetings. It is so disappointing to travel all the way from Mutoko expecting to meet the President and you realise that you were fooled. The organisers should have apologised to us for such misrepresentation," one supporter said.
Zanu Pf Mashonaland East provincial chairman Joel Biggie Matiza declined to comment.
The crowd was however addressed by Sydney Sekeramai, a politburo member.
Health and Child Care Minister David Parirenyatwa and Gutu South legislator Pupurai Togarepi also attended the rally.
