    Lawyer Maboke eyes Masvingo mayorship

    SIMBARASHE MTEMBO

MASVINGO - Masvingo lawyer Coleen Maboke has intimated that he wants to become the next mayor of the Ancient City if elected as councilor in the national elections due in 11 days.
Maboke who is representing MDC Alliance in Ward 2 is a senior partner at Ruvengo and Maboke Legal Practitioners.
"I am running for the office of councilor and if elected I am willing to be considered for the position of mayor by my party MDC Alliance. Our party manifesto calls for transparent leadership and this is what I seek to achieve for our local city council," said Maboke.
Mayors are elected on the first sitting of elected councilors and the party with majority members has a higher chance of having the new mayor.
"It is high time the young generation becomes part of the council and make progress which has been stalled over the years. I want to use my legal background to revisit council bylaws which have strained the relationships among taxpayers, council employees and council management," said Maboke.
He said that it was no longer acceptable that council has three clinics and of those there is not one that operates for 24 hours. He said the provincial hospital is far away from suburbs there is need in case of emergencies at night to have clinics operating 24 hours a day.
"We need electronic books at Mucheke Library and that's one of the projects that I will pursue if elected into office. We need to revamp Mucheke Hall and promote grassroots level football. Harare, Mutare and Bulawayo City councils have teams in the Premier league, why not Masvingo?" asked Maboke.news
