    Hwiru Primary, Jichidza High are NAC Quiz champions

    MASVINGO - Jichidza High School and Hwiru Primary School will be proceeding to the national competition of the National Aids Council Quiz competition after coming tops at the provincial clash at Victoria High School on Friday.
    Seven secondary schools namely Chirumba, Victoria, Chibi, Jichidza, Buffalo, Maranda and Gutu represented the province's seven districts after having won at the district level competitions held two weeks back.
    Hwiru, Vushe, M.Hugo, St Antony's, Takavarasha, Machena and Chiredzi primary schools were the quiz champions at the district level. 
    The quiz questions were divided into four segments comprising spellings, abbreviations, multiple choice and general knowledge.
    In high school competitions, Jichidza came first in all four segments and won the right to represent the province at national level. The school earned a total of 58 points with Chirumba which came second mustering 54 points.
    Maranda High came third with 42.15 points, Chibi was at position four with 41.5 points, Victoria High emerged fifth with 40 points, Gutu High came sixth with 20 points and Buffalo garnered 16 points at number seven.
    Hwiru Primary came first in primary schools category with 82%, Vushe came second with 68.5% followed by Capota (M.Hugo) with 64.5%. At position four was St Antony's with 63%, Takavarasha followed at position five with 58.4%, Machena Primary School came sixth with 52% and last was Chiredzi Primary at 40%.
    "I am very happy with the sterling performance of our pupils, the hard work that our teachers put into preparations for the competition, SDC members  and stakeholders who have been very supportive," said Hwiru Primary head, John Takabvirwakare.
    The winners walked away with US$300 prize money and the first and second runner ups got $US250 and US$200 respectively. All quiz participants were given brand new satchels each.
    "We are satisfied with the quality of answers given by the children. The competition is important as it increases awareness on HIV and Aids," said Edgar Muzulu who is the NAC Manager for Masvingo.
    The national level competitions are scheduled for September at a venue and date to be advised.
