    Coca Cola donates $2000 books to former champions, Hippo Valley

    CHIREDZI- The Coca Cola Company has donated educational books worth $2 000 to Hippo Valley High School at a colourful ceremony at the school last week on Wednesday.
    This was in recognition of the school winning the Copa Coca Cola trophy a record four times and as part of celebrating the 30th anniversary of the competitions which started in Bulawayo.
    The books were handed over by Delta Beverages southern region sales manager, Themiso Muzvagwa.
    "As we celebrate this milestone, we have found it prudent to pay a courtesy call to schools that have excelled in this tournament.
    "Today, we are here at Hippo Valley High School, the COPA Coca-Cola Champions in 1990, 1991, 1996 and 1997. This school has also done very well producing football stars such as Harlington Shereni.
     "We do understand that education and sport complement each other hence this token of appreciation for growing the Coca Cola brand," said Muzvagwa
    Copa Coca Cola is the largest brand-supported grassroots football tournament in the world, which is played in over 60 countries by 1.3 million teenagers and this tournament originated in Zimbabwe in the year 1989.
    Three schools including the pioneer winners Mzilikazi and Churchill have won the trophy four times and they been honoured in the same way.
    The former Hippo Valley head who was at the school during the time they won the trophy in 1996 and 1997, Erison Huruba said sport should be supported at the highest level to motivate students.
      "When top officers at schools support sporting activities the school learners get inspired and they excel. I would like to pay tribute to Coca Cola for affording us an opportunity to be national champions," said Huruba.
    Hippo Valley School headmaster Timitia Chikomo applauded Coca Cola for reminding them of their yesteryear great moments and acknowledged that the books will go a long way in improving the pass rate at the school.
    Tawanda Chimhamiwa South Eastern College Principle and former coach of the school in 1996 and 1997, Tongaat Huletts Zimbabwe operations director Kimpton Gwamura and Trainos Mbwirire also graced the occasion.
