Chirumanzu Zanu PF youth assault Mirror journalist

CHIRUMANZU – Two Zanu PF youth clad in party regalia assaulted Miriam Mangwaya, a Mirror bureau chief for Chikomba on Wednesday as they were travelling on a bus coming from the burial of Chief Hama in Chirumanzu.
The matter has been reported at Mvuma Police Station under RRB number 3397382.
Mangwaya identified one of the her assailants as Munyaradzi Chikowore, a political violence convictee who is doing community service after assaulting his wife for wearing Zanu PF primary elections candidate Chrispen Thomu's regalia. Chikowore supported another Zanu PF candidate while his wife supported Thomu.
The other accused was only identified as Mahida.
MISA condemned the behaviour of the youth as unruly, intolerant and unlawful, they also called upon the Police to thoroughly investigate the issue.
"These unlawful and unruly actions of intolerance by supporters of political parties should be condemned in the strongest of terms as they pose great risk to the safety and security of journalists and citizens in general" MISA said in a statement.
Mangwaya said she was sitting with one senior Government official in a bus hired for the funeral when the two who were drinking traditional beer confronted her for pulling out a notebook from her handbag. They accused her of writing stories that are anti their preferred Zanu PF candidate Prosper Machando and violently grabbed away her notebook threatening to tear it apart. They also shouted obscenities meant to lower her esteem.
Chikowore threatened violence against the person who allowed the reporter onto the bus.
They then manhandled her and tried to push her out of the moving bus. The incident was so nasty that at one time it distracted the bus driver who was being instructed to stop by the two that he almost swerved off the road.
Realising that the situation could turn Mangwaya pleaded that she be dropped out of the bus but Robson Matevekwe, a senior Government official came to her rescue.
"The Mirror writes negative stories about Zanu Pf therefore she must get out of the bus," said Chikowero.
