$3m private cemetery for Gweru to open September

GWERU – True Memorial Life, a state of the art and the first ever private cemetery for Gweru will open in September this year, Engineer Killen Ukama has said.
Ukama who is the Director of True Destination Investment told The Mirror in an exclusive interview last week that the cemetery which lies on a 25-hectare piece of land  and is 9km from the city centre along Gweru-Chiundura Road will carry 22 000 prime and standard graves.
He said that his company will spend the $3m in clearing the land which up until now is a forest, building a chapel, offices, museum, erecting a fence and putting up other structures like water system, roads, parking  for cars and sewer.
True Memorial life is a subsidiary of True Destination Investewment, a private land developer that has put together Northgate Heights, one of the most leafy suburbs of Gweru.
Engineer Ukama said approval for the cemetery and clearance to start erecting structures was given by Ministry of Local government and urban rural development and work has just begun. The cemetery which will be one of the first of its kind in Zimbabwe will have 24-hour security.
"We have received approval to start a private cemetery and work is already underway. We expect to spend about $3 million in putting up infrastructure at the cemetery including clearing the land, building a chapel and a museum and constructing roads and sewerage and water systems. Included in the cost will also be a security fence around the 25 hectare piece of land," said Engineer Ukama.
He said that the cemetery is just 1,5km off the Harare –Gweru Road in an area just after Regina Mundi High School.
"The area is  virgin land with a lot of trees and good drainage soils and we have started clearing it and erecting structures," said Engineer Ukama.
True Memorial Life comes as a big relief to Gweru residents who could not get a decent burial place after Mtapa Cemetery which opened in 1982 filled up last year and the bereaved had resorted to creating space in the graveyard and buried their dead in any fashion and order.
Engineer Ukama added that although the graveyard will be state of the art, both the standard and prime graves will be affordable.
"The graves will be affordable. We are still working on prices right now but to make sure everyone affords a grave we will divide them into two categories; the standard and premium.
"As you enter the gate there will be offices, after offices you move on to the chapel and a museum. From the chapel there will be a round-about from there we have a large parking space. Standard graves will be on the left side and premium graves on the right and to the extreme right graves for minors."
People are able to book for space for the whole family and loved ones can choose to be buried in the same grave. Booking will be easy as this can be done on the company website. The website will allow clients to indicate the exact place where they need a grave.
"True Memorial Life will also work closely with funeral parlours to enable clients the easy of booking," said Engineer Ukama.
Another dimension of the cemetery is that True Memorial Life will be able to test underground water for any contamination from the grave. A borehole will be constructed for that purpose at the bottom of the cemetery.
