CHIREDZI – The 20 000 member strong workers' union at Tongaat Hulett has expressed grave concern at the company's former director for agriculture, Farai Musikavanhu who has become Zanu PF's Parliamentary candidate for Chiredzi West.
They allege that Musikavanhu has an axe to grind with current management and has a ploy to destroy Tongaat by ensuring that all the company's sugar estates are taken away by Government and surrendered to indigenous farmers.
The unionists said that this will see over 20 000 workers losing their jobs as Musikavanhu's intention is allegedly to leave Tongaat with just the milling plant.
Musikavanhu refuted the allegations when The Mirror contacted him for a comment. He said that this was mere propaganda spread by his political adversaries. He said he had no vendetta with the company's management and that he also has workers' welfare at heart.
