MVUMA - Crispen Thomu is one of the good quality candidates that Zanu PF produced during its recent primary elections held last week.
Thomu is a successful businessman with diverse interest in retail, wholesale, hospitality and farming. He is one of the businessmen who have turned around the fortunes of Mvuma, a small Midlands town that has until recently almost become a ghost settlement.
He spoke to The Mirror in an exclusive interview this week and reflected on his victory. He said that his focus if elected into Parliament is to develop the dormant mining industry in Chirumanzu and generate thousands of jobs for the unemployed youth.
Thomu runs Nice Time business at Mvuma and the business entity is one of the most remarkable along Harare – Masvingo Highway.
He won the primaries for Chirumanzi-Zibagwe Constituency against Mandizvidza who is also a businessman and   Prosper Machando, former Zanu PF chair for the Midlands Province.
The 54-year-old Thomu said he has a vision for improved business opportunities in Chirumanzi, which is rich in  minerals  such as gold found in Nyikavanhu  and chrome which is abundant in Kwekwe.
He said improved mining in Chirumanzi will also result to increased foreign currency earnings and a positive development  for the national economy.
"The youth in Chirumanzi should not be idle but should  benefit from the resources in their  locality. I will enforce self-reliance amongst the people, especially the women, to improve their social welfare in the Chirumanzi- Zibagwe constituency," he said.
He also told The Mirror that if elected into office, he will ensure that  all the various groups in the constituency will run community-based projects  which include farming, chicken rearing,  as  part ofhis strategies to empower women and the youths.
"I will improvise projects for women, because in rural communities, they are usually left with the burden of making sure that there is enough food for the family. Therefore, empowering women is empowering the whole community. I will also spearhead projects for the youths so that they grow up with a sense of self-reliance and hard working," said Thomu.
Thomi has several business in Mvuma, Gutu and Chivhu with over 100 employees.
He was in born in Chirumanzi, in Denhere Village, under Chief Chirumanzi.
His supporters told The Mirror that they were very confident in Thomu, who has shown enthusiasm in ensuring improved living standards in communities through employment creation.
"He is a successful entrepreneur therefore it is not likely that when he gets into office, he will divert government funds as has become common with Parliamentary representatives. As a businessman who has realised large profits, he will be determined to develop the constituency and not to misuse funds," said Miidzo Taruvinga, a Zanu PF activist.
Thomu's campaign manager, Councillor Tremendous Musara also won primary elections in Ward  13 after  beating former Chirumanzi District Administrator Makanzwei Jecheche and three other contestants.
Musara said his team will continue working hard  in preparation for the approaching general elections.
"The primary elections are over and as the winning team we have put aside  differences with our rivals. We are going to work together in unity for the betterment of the people of Chirumanzi. We are very confident that Thomu is heading for victory," said Musara. local news
