GUTU – The secretary for Youth League in the Zanu PF Politiburo and candidate for Gutu South in the forthcoming harmonized elections, Pupurai Togarepi has started empowerment projects for the vulnerable in his Constituency.
The projects have seen 130 women and youths attending three day hand work training at Majada Growth Point in Gutu from Thursday to Saturday last week which was funded by the aspiring legislature who is also the head of Prudential Services at Insurance and Pension Commission (IPEC).
The women and youth were trained in tie and dye, bead work, fence making, shoe polish making and dressmaking.
"The projects are a way of empowering the youths and women for family development and community development. I believe that everyone should be involved in the development of the community, thus l have launched this hand work training program and surely by 2022 every household will be solar powered," said Togarepi.
Togarepi added that his main aim is to empower the community by eradicating unemployment through indigenization.
He said that the projects are open to everyone but mainly the youth and women, as the youths are the future thus there is a need to build a better tomorrow and women are responsible for the upkeep of the families, so they have to be empowered.
"I am funding these projects for women because they have the burden of taking care of the family. Therefore, empowering women is empowering the community, so empowering the youth is building a better tomorrow," he said.
Ainah Munyikwa said that they are grateful of the knowledge they are getting from the handwork training and they believe that their lives will never be the same because knowledge is power.
