    Regina Mundi scoops Secretary’s Merit Award again

    GWERU – Highflying Roman Catholic Church-run Regina Mundi High is this year's winner of the Secretary's Merit Award, the biggest honour given to an outstanding school by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.
    Regina Mundi High head, Sr Concillia Jangara confirmed the development in an interview with The Mirror and said that the honour and prizes will be conferred on the school at a function to be held on June 5, 2018.
    The award is for work adjudged in 2017.
    Regina Mundi which has on a number of occasions attained the best O and A Level results in the Midlands Province and is among the best in the country is winning the prize for the third time after clinching the honour in 2004 and in 2013.
    This is the second time that Sr Jangara has won the prize as the head after winning it  in 2013. The first head to win the prize for the school is Sr Patricia Rubaya former Gweru Diocese Education Secretary.
    Sr Jangara attributed the success to her teaching staff, support staff, pupils and parents at the school.
    "We are the 2017 Secretary Merit Bell winners and this is a testimony of hard work by every single member of staff at this school and all the students who are here," said Jangara. 
    Some criteria for judging included effective implementation of educational polices, effective collaboration with stakeholders, broad balance and also implementation of non-formal education. Judges also looked at the adequacy and maintenance of infrastructure, sustainable income generating projects as well as the provision  of an optimal teaching and learning environment.
    Regina Mundi was established on January 25, 1960 and due to constant refurbishment and development it looks new and very modern.
    Just inside this first quota, the school has successfully implemented eight big projects that include the purchasing and networking of 39 desktop computers, purchasing and installation of CCTV, construction of fish ponds, establishment of a banana plantation project, installation of pastel evolution system, construction of non-teaching staff ablution block and renovation of the bus garage.  
    Sr Jangara also started dairy, piggery and vegetable garden projects at the school and therefore almost all the food served in the school dinning is produced by the school. enabling students to get fresh meals.
    Sr Jangara also eats her meals with pupils in the dining as a way of ensuring that they eat the best prepared foods.
    As another way of generating money the school also procured two tents which it hires out.
