Mucheke girl specialises in EcoCash money thefts

    SHANNISE DZOBO
MASVINGO – Neria Gatsi (22) of Mucheke B in Masvingo has become a regular guest at the local magistrates' courts for stealing money through electronic transfers.
Gatsi recently appeared in court before Magistrate Peter Madiba after emptying money from a neighbour's EcoCash account.
She stole $20 from Millicent Chapwanya's EcoCash when she was supposed to repay the latter $10 that she owed her.
Chapwanya is said to have asked Gatsi to return $10 that she owed her but she told the complainant that she did not have a mobile cell phone from which to transfer the money through EcoCash. Chapwanya gave her debtor her cellphone to conduct the transaction but taking advantage of her knowledge of the former's EcoCash pin number, Gatsi transferred $20 into her account and then transferred back $10 into Chapwanya's account.
She erased the message confirming that she had transfered $20 from Chapwanya's account.
Gatsi again appeared before the court after stealing from the same complainant in 2016. She withdrew $170 after she stole her bank card and went to Pick 'n' Pay and bought groceries worth $50 and got $120 cash back.
The accused pleaded guilty before the court and was given community service.crime news
