Alliance, MDC T clash over Chikwinya candidature

    NYASHA MAJONI

KWEKWE- Former Mbizo MP and now People's Democratic Party (PDP) secretary general, Settlement Chikwinya has vowed to stand in Mbizo despite resistance from MDC T supporters.
The stand-off is an acid test for the Alliance partrners.
It is understood that MDC-T structures in Mbizo want the to field its candidate Charles Madhiwa although the constituency was allocated to a PDP candidate as per the alliance's set electoral guidelines. MDC-T structures went to the extent of seeking the party's national deputy organizing secretary, Amos Chibaya's support to ensure that Madhiwa will stand.
But speaking to The Mirror in an interview, Chikwinya said he will surrender the ticket to MDC T. He said he is even prepared to face those resisting his candidature, even if it means flouting the Alliance's guidelines, and face them in an electoral contest.
"I am going to contest in this election and you must rest assured that I am prepared to face whoever feels otherwise because candidates are chosen by the people. I do not despise rivals because contestation is good for democracy and at the end of the day, losers will support winners in our collective bid to dislodge Zanu PF," he said.
