    2 Beitbridge men in court for robbing travellers

     BEITBRIDGE - Two Beitbridge men were arrested by Police barely hours after robbing a traveler who had asked for directions from them.
    Joshua Gwatirera (31) and Ishmael Phiri have appeared before Beitbridge resident magistrates Langton Mukwengi facing armed robbery charges recently.
    They allegedly robbed Knowledge Pemhe on March 17 2018 and the incident happened at the Total Service Station near the Bulawayo – Masvingo junction as one leaves Beitbridge. The court heard that the two suspects used a knobkerrie, a knife and a sharp object to threaten the complainant and they took away R500, Samsung Galaxy phone, sneakers and his national identity card.
    Jabulani Mberesi told the court that Gwatirera who resides in Kwekwe and Phiri of Dulibadzimu in Beitbridge met the complainant near Total Garage as he arrived in the border town from Kadoma. The complainant asked for directions to Dulibadzimu Bus Rank and the two showed him but followed the complainant soon afterwards.
    When they caught up with him, Gwatirera allegedly produced a knife while Phiri twisted the complainant's arm threatening to stab him unless he surrendered all the cash and valuables in his possession.
    Phiri searched the complainant and took away his valuables and fled away when they saw a vehichle approaching.
    At around 4am on the same day, the complainant identified the two accused persons at Chocolate Bar near Dulibadzimu rank and alerted detectives from CID Beitbridge leading to the accused persons' arrest. crime news
