MDC T Beitbridge councilor tops in Swedish programme

BEITBRIDGE - MDC T councilor for Ward 2 in Beitbridge, Sithabisiwe Mulowa is one of the five councilors throughout Zimbabwe chosen as a leadership mentor after going through the National Training Programme run by the Swedish International Centre for Democracy.
Mulowa was among 23 councilors from Zimbabwe who attended the leadership training programme and is one of the five who recently received Mentorship award certificates on February  15, 2018 to train other councilors in the same programme.
The certificates were received at a Harare Hotel from Lovgren Shanoon who is the Programme officer for International Training programs.
The training programme saw the 23 councilors spending a week in Kenya in 2015 and another two weeks in Sweden in 2016 where they had an opportunity to observe Swedish elections.
Some components included leadership skills, strategic issues and training of women in politics.
Speaking in an interview with The Mirror, Mulowa said she was happy to be chosen among five mentors who would be training other councilors.
"I am happy to be one of the five councilors chosen to be a mentor of the new councilors going into this programme. We hold training programmes for our trainees in Harare and Gweru," said Mulowa.
The other four councilors who became mentors are Betty Jaison who is a councilor in Chitungwiza, Esther Senga, the chairlady for Gokwe, Jetro Gumbo a councilor in Esigodini, Margret Nyahoda from Nyanga and Resta Dzvinyangoma from Mutoko.
"The other things that we learned were how to associate with other political parties, tactics which men use to pull women down. The programme also encouraged women to join politics it is women who are mostly affected by decisions made by leaders," said Mulowa.
