CHIVI – Chigwikwi Primary in Ward 4 in Chivi has allegedly been closed for days after angry parents stormed the school in protest against poor Grade 7 results.
The parents are said to have barricaded the entrance to classrooms using tree branches.  Chingwikwi which is owned by Chivi Rural District Council has allegedly been coming number 93 out of 94 in the Zimsec Grade 7 results for the past several years.
Chivi RDC Chief Executive Officer Tariro Matavire confirmed the closure of the school but said this was caused by an outcome of School Development Committee elections that left some parents disgruntled.
"The Ministry of Education district officials intervened and resolved the issue and pupils have been going to school since yesterday," said
Masvingo Provincial Education Director, Zedius Chitiga said he was hearing the issue for the first time when The Mirror called him for a comment.
Chigwikwi School Development Committee chairman, Herbert Makozho also confirmed to The Mirror that the school which has an enrolment of 300 was closed by parents. He said it had been closed for six days from Wednesday to Monday.
Apart from the poor results, the parents also complained against David Maridza, one of the teachers who is Zanu PF Ward 4 councillor and vice chairman of Chivi RDC. They accused him of spending a lot of his time on council business and meetings and of abusing school buildings by holding party meetings in classrooms.
Efforts to get a comment from Maridza were fruitless.
"The school has not had good results for the past 11 years. This cannot continue and we shall bar teachers from attending lessons until proper and appropriate action is taken," said a fuming parent who talked to The Mirror on condition of anonymity.
They accused Maridza of holding party meetings during school hours and clearing classrooms of students to allow party business to go on in there.
Recently a teacher died at a sports gala at the school after allegedly eating poison.
Another parent Herbert Makusha said things were not well in the school.
