    Businessman Maketa dies

    GUTU – Alex Takaendesa Maketa (67) one of the most successful businessmen in Gutu District prior and post-independence has died.
    His son Wellington Maketa confirmed the death in an interview with The Mirror.
    Maketa who had shops at more than seven business centres in Gutu including Makanga, Zvavahera, Chitsa, Magomebedze, Chinyika, Machawira, Tongogara and Lawrence Business Centre died at Parirenyatwa Hospital on Tuesday morning when his sugar levels continued to rise.
    He will be buried at Guvamatanga Village near Chinyika Business Center in Gutu today (Thursday).
    His body laid in state in Kadoma on Tuesday and was taken to Gutu for burial on Wednesday (yesterday).
    Maketa who is also known for his immense contribution to the liberation struggle by supplying necessities to Zanla forces and also getting imprisoned for eight years under the Smith regime was now staying in Kadoma where his business prospered and was a  treasurer in the Zanu PF structures in Mash West.
    In Kadoma, he was also a renowned farmer running Riverside Farm with more than 200 heads of cattle and 1 000 pigs. He was in the national news recently because of his successful piggery project. Maketa had tens of houses in Kadoma and there is a street named after him that has 55 houses of his  in the town.
    He leaves behind 38 children and several wives.
