    Beitbridge Zone 2 schools shine in interzonal athletics competitions


    BEITBRIDGE – Zone 2 which is dominated by schools from Beitbridge Central was the toast of the interzonal athletics' competitions held at Malala Primary School along Masvingo Beitbridge Highway on Friday when it came in pole position.
    Zone 2 hauled 37 gold medals, 33 silver and 15 bronze and some of the schools which make up the zone are schools from Beitbridge Central which are Dulivhadzimu Primary, St Josheph's, Beitbridge Mission and Beitbridge Government School.
    In total Zone 2 harvested a total of 85 medals.
    Zone 2 was in a class of its own as the second placed Zone 3 trailed far behind with just 15 gold medals. In addition to the 15 gold medals, Zone 3 managed 14 silver and 17 bronze. Zone 3 managed a total of 16 medals.
    Apart from Central Cluster, Zone 2 which walked away with a floating trophy comprises of Tongwe Cluster, Chamalechojo, Mabidi and Chaluma.
    Zone 3 comprises of Majini, Chamunangana and Zezani clusters.
    Zone 4 came third with 12 gold medals, 10 silver and 18 bronze and their total haul was 40 medals and on fourth position was Zone 1 with 8 gold medals, 10 silver and 14 bronze and their total was 32.
    Zone 4 comprised of Maramani and Masera/Macucuta clusters while Zone 1 comprised of Chitulipasi, Dite, Nuli and Chesvingo.
    Provincial competitions will be held at Phelandaba stadium in Gwanda from March 7 to 9 2018.
    Schools Inspector Edson Mbedzi was the guest of honour, standing in for the District Schools Inspector. Chief Sitaudze was also present during the event.
    St Joseph Primary left in imprint on the event with one its athletes, Blessing Makambanga (nicknamed Bushiri) who was voted the best male athlete. The opposite honour went to Felicia Muleya from Zone 3 WHO was the best female athlete and they both walked away with trophies.
    FBC Bank identified Honest Chimanda from Beitbridge Mission as its best athlete and awarded him a satchel.
    Penemene Primary school in zone 2  won in the PE category and will proceed to the Provincial competitions.
