    1924 Health Act to be repealed


    Health Portifolio Committee moves to replace 1924 Act
         .activist calls for flavoured condoms

    MASVINGO – The Portfolio Committee on Health and Child Care and the Thematic Committee on HIV and AIDS held a public hearing in Masvingo on Tuesday at the Civic Centre to hear views from the community on the forthcoming new Health Bill which is meant to repeal the 1924 Act which is still in place.
    The consultative meeting tackled issues to do with the management of public health, staff shortages in public health centres mostly in rural district clinics and non-communicable diseases that were not being attended to.
    Chipiwa Mugabe the co-founder of Space of Marginalised Groups in Diversity in Zimbabwe organisation told the committee that there is need for more incentives for those with TB in order to access special diet during treatment.
    She also called for inclusion in the Bill for the provision of flavoured condoms to reduce reckless sexual activities among the youth in order to reduce the spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.
     "These meetings are mainly focusing on getting views and comments regarding the replacing of the 1924 Health Act so that we get the concerns of the public and include them in the draft," said Prince Dubeko Sibanda MDC T Binga North MP the deputy chairperson of the Committee.
    The meetings started on March 5 in Gweru and their next pot of call is Gwanda.
