Unity Quarry begins production at $1million plant

MASVINGO- Unity Mining Quarry Syndicate has started test production of quarry stones at its million dollar plant which is situated 17km from Masvingo along Bulawayo Road at Trio Beacon Farm.
"We started test production in January in preparation for full production at the end of February or beginning of March. We are ready for the dualisation of the Harare Beitbridge road so that we supply quarry stones for the project as we have the capacity," said one of the co-directors Forward Majaya during the tour of the giant machine.
The actual crushing machine sits on 200 square metres of land and it took over eight months to assemble the plant arguably the biggest quarry making machine in Masvingo as it has the capacity to produce 55 tonnes of quarry per hour, Majaya said.
Unity Mining Quarry Syndicate was established in 2016 and sits on 1000 square metres of land and currently employs 15 workers with Benjamin Mutava as the foreman.
When it is fully operational it can employ over 20 people.
"The quality of the stone mined here was approved by the Standard Association of Zimbabwe. There is a 315KVA transformer and we are in the process of constructing a bridge on the nearby river which we expect to finish very soon. As for competition from established companies we are not afraid at all, the more the merrier.
"This is in line with the ZIMASSET where creation of jobs is one of the key elements of the program," said Benjamin Mazarire the director.
"The 20mm aggregate comply with the strength and sieve requirements in ZWS 233:1997," reads a comment by SAZ approving the project.
Mazarire also added that the Environmental Management Agency has already issued an environmental impact assessment certificate.
The machine has a jaw crusher where the big stones are fed into and then go through a vibrating feeder to ensure that the right size passes to the roller screen which also screens the stones which go into the cone crusher.
There is another vibrating screen for grading the stones where they are separated into quarry dust for making bricks, 12mm stones mainly for road construction, 19mm stones for making concrete and the last product which are called oversize and these are mainly for construction of bridges and houses.business news
