BUHERA – Two teachers at Nerutanga High School in Buhera were involved in a serious brawl recently when Tobias Mhute (36) discovered that the colleague had saved his wife's (Mhute) number in his cellphone under the name Cash.
Mhute could not understand why Vhelapi Toendepi (37), a teacher he shares the same house with failed to use his wife's proper name in his mobile number. He demanded answers and in a fit of rage collected an iron bar and severely assaulted Toendepi.
The matter came up for hearing at Buhera Magistrates Court with Mhute charged for assault.
Mhute pleaded guilty to the charge but disputed the validity of the medical affidavit which was written two weeks after the assault. He argued that he assaulted the complainant on September 15, 2017 but the medical affidavit is dated October 1, 2017.
Magistrate Mangosi postponed the matter to February 14, 2018 to allow the doctor who wrote the affidavit to come to court and testify.
It is the State case that on September 15, 2017 at around 1pm the accused went to the complainant's room where he asked for a phone to call his wife and he was given the phone by the complainant.
The accused dialled his wife's number and was shocked to see the name Cash appearing together with the number.
The complainant snatched his phone back from the accused and deleted the name and the number. A misunderstanding arose when the accused asked the complainant why he had done that. The accused then assaulted the complainant with an iron bar once on the right arm.
    The accused sustained injuries.
