    FELISTUS MUCHEKENYA

MASVINGO – Masvingo Provincial Medical Director, Dr Amadeus Shamu will soon send a team of health professionals to Gutu Mission Hospital in Gutu to investigate acute water shortages that have have seen nurses, patients and other staff sourcing water from surrounding villages.
Senior officials at the hospital who were responding to an article carried by The Mirror two weeks ago are understood to have disputed the newspaper story to Dr Shamu.
However, Dr Shamu has after further probing from the newspaper said that he was now sending a team of investigators from his office to establish the true position. He said that the team was likely to go to Gutu  early  next week.
A Mirror reporter who spent a day at the hospital recently saw nurse aids delivering water to the wards in 200 litre bins that are carted in wheel chairs. Nurses who declined to be named for fear of victimization said the worst situation was in the maternity ward where a lot of water is needed by delivering mothers who lose a lot of blood.
Abiot Masinire the hospital administrator declined to comment.
