CHIREDZI – The Ministry of Local Government, Public Works, Rural and Urban Development has approved Chiredzi Town Council`s $4,6m budget for 2018.
Chiredzi Town Council Secretary Charles Muchatukwa confirmed the approval in an interview with The Mirror. He said the major thrust of this year`s budget is on addressing poor water service delivery as well as improving the town`s sewer system.
"Government has approved our 2018 budget which is $4,6m. The approval is welcome and this means we are able to embark on various projects proposed by residents during budget consultations last year. Our main targets with this budget are to improve on water provision and attending to the problematic sewer system. We hope stakeholders will assist so that revenue collection is boosted," said Muchatukwa.
Chiredzi Town Council has a poor revenue collection record and it is currently owed nearly $10m by residents, business community and house owners.
