GWANDA - The Ministry of Local Government Public Works Rural and Urban Development has approved Gwanda Rural District Council's $2,3 million budget for the 2018 financial year.
Gwanda RDC treasurer, Range Sibanda confirmed the development in an interview with The Mirror last week.
"Government has approved our 2018 budget which is $2,3m. The approval is welcome and this means we are able to embark on various projects proposed by residents during our budget consultations last year.
"Our target is to improve infrastructure in schools and hospitals. We will liaise with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to see which schools we going to build a classroom and a staff house for. We will also build some mothers' shelters at clinics," said Sibanda .
Sibanda said the council has a poor revenue collection record and it is currently owed nearly $1,8m by residents and the business community.
"We have a poor revenue collection record and have resorted to debt collectors especially for engagement with stamp mill operators. We however, are inviting those who owe council to bring their payments plans," said Sibanda.
