MASVINGO – Police has named six Zvishavane family members who perished in a head-on accident near Exor Service Station in Masvingo on Sunday evening.
National Police Spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi released the names and they are Kudakwashe Jani (31) the driver, Anna Mahera (31) Jani's wife, their son Savanah Jani who was only two months old, Beatrice Mpalasa (55) Jani's mother in law, Cecilia Mpalasa (46) and Fungai Munyangadze (35) Mahera's sisters.
The six died when their Land Rover Discovery which was heading towards Beitbridge was crashed by a Luxliner Bus that was trying to overtake another bus, D&C at a curve. When the Luxliner driver tried to overtake, he saw a third bus belonging to Kaya Express that had broken down and was stationery inside the curve while the Land Rover was approaching from the opposite direction.
Sources said the Land Rover driver pulled off the road to his left to avoid the three busses but the Luxliner driver who had no space to avoid the other two busses also drove off the road to his right resulting in the horror crash with the Land Rover.
The Luxliner crashed the Land Rover thereby trapping all occupants inside. The D&C bus that was being overtaken did not stop after the accident but sped off towards the city center.
The Mirror has established that the family was travelling from Zvishavane to Great Zimbabwe to celebrate the birth of Savanah.
Jani, Mahera and their son were buried in Chiweshe and the two sisters and their mother in law were buried in Chegutu.
