GWERU – Patricia Magazini who is believed to be the ring leader behind a syndicate of con-artists that defrauded tens of job seekers looking for nursing places of thousands of dollars has been arrested over fresh cases in Gweru.
Magazini was arrested as she left Masvingo Magistrates Court on Tuesday last week where she together with five others faced charges of defrauding 55 job seekers of more than $60 000.
She was whisked to Gweru where seven complainants had filed charges against her for conning them of $7 618 on the guise that she would get them nurse training places at Masvingo Provincial Hospital.
The State said in September 2016 the complainants got information that Magazini worked at Masvingo Provincial and was able to facilitate places to train as nurses. They contacted the accused who asked each to pay an admission fee through Ecocash.
All the seven complainants paid money amounting to $7 618 on different dates.
The offence however came to light on February 2, 2017 when the complainants were advised by the accused to proceed to Masvingo Provincial to start training.  At the hospital the complainants were told that the accused was not known and there was no such intake at the hospital.
The matter was reported leading to the arrest of the accused who was trapped by CID members.
