TRIANGLE - Silver Fins Swimming Club from Triangle enjoyed a convincing victory at Masvingo Province's 3rd annual Provincial Championship Swimming Gala held at Murray Mac Primary School in Triangle on Saturday 2nd December 2017.
Proving to be a team that is always the strongest in the province, Silver Fins went on to claim victory with a convincing 1683 points over Dunuza Primary School 1366 points, Rufaro Swimming Club's 721 points and Malilangwe Swimming Club's 555.
Silver Fins posted more points than rival  clubs mainly because they had more swimmers competing as they were the hosts but the competition was very tough as we witnessed some of the best young swimmers from Rufaro, Dunuza and Malilangwe posting best times and breaking records in the heats.
Saturday's meet saw participants from 9 years and under and up to 12 years compete in the 25m breaststroke, butterfly, freestyle; 50m breaststroke, butterfly, backstroke; 100m backstroke, breaststroke while 10 years and over also competed in the 200m backstroke and 400m freestyle.
Sea Horses from Masvingo District also competed as 38 swimmers from age groups 7 up to 12 competed against time to earn places in the Masvingo Provincial team to participate in the Senior Nationals Gala which is scheduled to be held in Bulawayo from 15-18 February 2018 and the Junior Nationals which is scheduled for Harare on the 10th and 11 March 2018.
The gala opening had a hair rising effect for all present as the swimmers, officials and Provincial Board made their way around the swimming pool deck.
The gala was well organized, the facilities were great, the weather was perfect for swimming and present was the guest of honor Mr.Lovemore Matikinyidze who is a Tongaat Hullet Community development manager, Gerald Pallister (Swimming Officials Association of Zimbabwe), Onismo Nhondova (Masvingo Chairperson and Vice Chairperson for Zimbabwe Swimming Board of Control and other officials from Masvingo Swimming Board.
In his opening remarks Nhondova took time to thank Tongaat Hullet Triangle for their continued support in development of sports in Triangle, Masvingo and the country at large.
"We are very indebted to Tongaat Hullet, they have been for years providing us with the best facilities in the country for our swimmers and we have three pools in Triangle and they are well maintained and we use them for free for the development of our swimmers and as Masvingo Swimming board we want to thank them for their support."
Bryan Ziki, Scott Wenham, Calisto Zishiri, YorinaMugadhi, Louisa Chagonda, Jacqueline Shamoto and Chrissy Wenhan were the most outstanding in their heats as they either broke records or posted personal bests across all events.
In total 43 Provincial records were broken which is clear evidence that swimmers are raising the bar and there is great potential for better times should swimmers continue to put in their time in the pool.
