CHIREDZI – The rivalry between members of Zanu PF linked to President Mnangagwa and former First Lady Grace Mugabe continues unabated in Chiredzi despite the ascendency of the former to the office of the Presidency.
There was an ugly scene at Batanai Primary School in Ward 28 on Sunday when some Zanu PF youth believed to be aligned to Lacoste barred Chiredzi West MP Darlington Chiwa who is believed to be a member of a camp loyal to Grace from addressing a feedback meeting.
The youths who were bussed from other areas threatened Chiwa with violence if he went ahead and addressed people gathered for the meeting.
Chiwa confirmed the incident and said he was shocked by the youths allegedly sent by rivals eyeing the same seat. He said people who came for the meeting were threatened with violence if they listened to the address.
"Rogue youths disrupted a meeting which I wanted to address in Ward 28 on Sunday. They arrived in an open lorry and ordered everyone to leave the venue the moment I arrived. I am the MP of the area and I don't have any sanctions which stop me from addressing people in my area. This is a criminal act by rivals in the party, eyeing my constituency" said Chiwa.
