DARAMOMBE – Henry Madovi who is the general manager of Croco Motors has urged the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to add industrial attachment for pupils to the curriculum so that students can decide their career paths with adequate information.
Speaking at a prize giving day ceremony held at Daramombe High School in Chikomba on Saturday Madovi said pupils need exposure for them to make correct decisions on their careers and he said that attachment can start from as early as primary school.
The theme of the day was, teaching and learning in compliance with the new curriculum.
He said that it was late for students to be exposed to industry when they are at University as happens in Zimbabwe currently.
"I plead with the responsible authorities in the education sector to allow pupils in primary and secondary schools to have training sessions in industry and get exposure at an early stage. Meeting career guidance officials is not enough for this new world," said Madovi.
Daramombe head Kennedy Manzonza said that the prize giving day ceremony is held to acknowledge the students' hardwork and to thank them for lifting Daramombe's flag high.
The day saw one brilliant student walking away with seven prizes.
The awards were grouped into different categories namely, Technical, Humanities, Sciences, Languages, Mathematics, Commercials, best student overall, public speaking and sports.
The most disciplined student award was scooped by Chidochemoyo Mugari.
Caroline Rukwava's parents could not hide their excitement when their daughter who is doing Form 3 scooped seven awards. Last year the girl walked away with nine prizes.
Manzonza said that results have been improving every year and was proud of the school's record. He added that the school had implemented the new curriculum.
The school had also improved in terms of infrastructure with a state of the art computer laboratory, pure science laboratory refurbishment, renovations of the lecture theatre and low-lands boys' hostels.
The school now has a banana plantation with 300 plants, it has a magazine where pupils sharpen their writing skills and those doing music will soon be launching a second album.
