CHIREDZI – Chiredzi Town Council has started rehabilitation of all tarred roads in the town after receiving $500 000 from the Zimbabwe National Roads Authority (ZINARA).
Chiredzi town engineer Weisley Kauma said all tarred roads will be resurfaced and the work should be completed in three weeks. The total distance of the roads to be maintained is 13km, said Kauma.
"We received $500 000 from ZINARA for the resurfacing of all tarred roads in the town. We are already starting the work and the contractor will start tarring the roads. It is a program which will greatly improve the status of our town" said Kauma.
ZINARA has adopted quality control measures which see them paying a contractor after inspecting the quality of work. A contractor who was given work to rehabilitate Lion Drive in the town had some of his payments withheld after the road developed potholes barely weeks after completion of work.
