ZAHA introduces unique housing scheme, “My dollar my stand, my dollar my house”

CHIREDZI - It is a new dawn for most home seekers as Zimbabwe Amalgamated Housing Association (ZAHA) has introduced "My dollar my stand, my dollar my house" throughout the country for the low income earners.
The director general of ZAHA Dr Killer Zivhu said his organization has come up with the affordable scheme which encourages Zimbabweans to adopt a culture of saving money with the goal of acquiring residential stands and eventually building their own houses.
"Our vision is to roll out this programme through the ZIMASSET social cluster to the whole nation before year end so that we achieve the goal of housing for all by year 2020," said Dr Zivhu.
He added that this was a way of giving back to the iconic African leader, President Mugabe who is revered throughout Africa for his visionary leadership of raising the standards of life of the ordinary people through the land reform programme which has seen over 100 000 small scale farmers growing tobacco as compared to only a handful before 2000.
The concept has been tried and tested in Norton and Chivhu and  was very successful as evidenced by the quick servicing of stands and the provision of water and electricity in those areas. Under the Galloway Project in Norton most people are already building their houses on stands ranging from 1500 square meters to more than 2000 square metres.
The Galloway project has been successful based on the concept of pooling financial resources with ZAHA having put roads running water and electricity at the project. With My dollar my stand my dollar my house concept ZAHA is working towards the implementation of what is highlighted in Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio Economic Transformation  which calls for the provision of housing units and residential stands for Zimbabweans.  In Buffalo Range, Chiredzi ZAHA is planning to build 600 housing units and the construction has already begun as all the required equipment like trucks and brick moulding machines has been moved to the site in preparation of the ground breaking ceremony to be held before the year end.
There are five types of sample houses under construction which are
    1. Flat which has three bedrooms, bathroom, toilet, dining and kitchen
    2. Semi-detached flats
3.Two roomed house with a bathroom and toilet
4.Four roomed house with bathroom and toilet
5.Three roomed house with bathroom and toilet
"Those who intend to extend their houses after acquiring can do so as long as they go through the required process with the local authorities in their areas," said Dr Zivhu.
Unlike cooperatives, ZAHA does not handle people`s finances as the depositors chose a bank of their choice where they maintain fixed deposits and they have control over their money and have an option of discontinuing the programme depending on personal circumstances.
