GWERU – Desperation for employment has scaled new heights in Zimbabwe.
More than 100 youth from Gweru have applied to do auditions for pornographic videos 'to be shot' in the City. The positions were advertised through several Whatsapp groups.
The youths are supposed to pay $10 registration fees which is refundable if one doesn't make it.
The youths could not resist the lure of earning $700 a week for females and $500 a week for males. The advert placed on Whatsapp invited youths who are between the ages of 22 and 45 and are HIV negative.
The Mirror however, traced the cellphone number used and established that the advert was a hoax. The owner of the number Honest Elias Koke said someone used his number in the advert without his knowledge and he reported the matter to the Police.
Koke told The Mirror that he received over a 100 messages from people applying to be considered for auditions and many more messages were still pouring in.
"I stay in Harare and I have never been to Gweru and I was shocked to see messages in my phone from people looking for opportunities to do auditions for porno videos. I initially thought this was a bad practical joke but when the messages got over 100 I reported the matter to the Police," said Koke.
Koke however, got angry when The Mirror pressed him for the RRB number of his report and the Police's response.
It also stated that interested participants where to pay a registration fee of $10 and if accepted a female participant would earn $700 with males earning  $500.
When The Mirror contacted the supplied number to register, Koke said that someone designed the advert and used his number as reference.
"More than 100 people have contacted me over those auditions and I know nothing about that someone who used my number as reference.
I have never been to Gweru ever since and l live in Harare. I was surprised when l switched on my phone on Tuesday morning and  hundreds of text messages from people saying they are interested in porn auditions came in.
I have even changed my status and tried to warn people that the advert was just a scam by someone who used my number for reference and l do not know why he did this because it is tarnishing my image. Plus please do not call me again l have already reported this case to the Police and its under investigation," said Koke before hanging up
