Mwenezi RDC receives US$98 000 for roads rehab

MWENEZI – The Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (ZINARA) has disbursed US$98 000 to Mwenezi Rural District Council (MRDC) for rehabilitation of roads.
MRDC acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Albert Chivanga confirmed the development and said council has already accessed the funds.
"Last year we received around US$40 000 and we used it on earth roads. This time we have prioritised Rutenga Growth Point and Mucheni Road, a 93 km road in the resettlement area.
"We have prioritised Rutenga because it is our biggest growth point here; we have to improve the face of the district through developing Rutenga," said Chivanga.
He added that road maintenance was going to be done by a local company called Gepnic Contractors from Harare with the help of locals through provision of labour.
"We have employed locals to provide labour so that we can empower them since the project is taking place in their area. The technical team is from the contractors," Chivanga added.
Speaking in an interview MRDC engineer Obedience Bhande commended ZINARA for funding the district's road rehabilitation programme and said the contractors will do a 1, 2 km stretch at Rutenga.
"This is part of periodic maintenance works and the programme will cover pothole patching, re-sealing and re-graveling of other parts of the roads," said Bhande.
The contractors have already started maintaining the roads at Rutenga and 19 locals have been employed.
Potholes are a common thing at the growth point and motorists have expressed concern that their vehicles were being damaged.
