Hordes of Buhera women gather in solidarity with ‘rapist’ prophet

MURAMBINDA – Tens of women from Buhera were among hordes of people who gathered at Murambinda Police Station on Monday to give moral support to self-styled prophet and founder of Sangano raJehova Apostolic Church, Victor Chiminya who was arrested on allegations of raping and impregnating a 15-year-old congregant.
Murambinda Police Station was a hive of activity on Monday morning as tens of women gathered to check on the fate of their bishop who had been arrested on Sunday evening.
Chiminya of Mugabe Village under Chief Nyashanu is accused of raping the girl who is from Ndongwe Village. Chiminya allegedly prophesied that the juvenile had some evil spirits that were inside her body and invited her to his shrine where a cleansing process was to take place.
Chiminya appeared before Rusape Magistrate's court facing charges of rape and was remanded out of custody to 4 October.
It is alleged that on March 13, 2017 Chiminya met the juvenile and told her that the spirit had shown him some evil spirits that were inside the girl's body and that he wanted to remove them. He allegedly invited the girl to his shrine.
At the shrine, Chiminya allegedly told the girl that he was going to cast out the evil spirits by having sexual intercourse with her. He allegedly slept with the girl and warned her that she would die or go mad if she told anyone about what happened.
According to court documents, Chiminya raped the girl for a second time after she stayed overnight at the shrine with a group of other congregants.
The second incident occurred on the evening of May 15, 2017 after church service.
On this day Chiminya allegedly asked some congregants to sleep over after the church service since it was late. Among those who remained behind was the complainant.
He allegedly told those who remained behind that he wanted to pray for the juvenile outside. She is said to have followed Chiminya unwillingly into a nearby farm where he raped her again.
The matter came to light after the mother of the complainant noticed some changes on her daughter and questioned her until she told her what had happened.
