CHIVI – Barely a week after striking at a service station at Nyika Growth Point in Bikita, robbers have hit Mhandamabwe Service Station in Chivi and escaped with US$6 400.
Edward Ganyani who is the owner of the service station confirmed the incident which happened at around 2am on Monday. He said that the robbers handcuffed the security guard and destroyed part of the wall that houses the safe.
"They cut two padlocks to find their way into the room where we kept the safe.  They then destroyed part of the wall that houses the safe and we suspect that they used a hammer.
"They fled in a getaway car with the safe after attempts to open it by blowing the metal box failed. The guard was not harmed," said Ganyani.
Masvingo Province Police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa said he had not been told about the robbery.
Last week robbers got away with $10 000 from Mapamba Filling Station in Nyika Growth Point.
