960 Chikomba households to receive day-old chicks from MP

CHIKOMBA - Some 960 households from Chikomba West constituency will soon receive 24 000 chicks from an empowerment project being run by their MP Mike Bimha.
Bimha who is also the Minister of Industry and Commerce confirmed the project in an interview with The Mirror.
Minister Bimha said the project will be exclusively for road runners since they currently enjoy good local and international demand. The project kicked off in Ward 7 where he handed over 1 000 chicks to 40 youths from different households and another 1 000 will be handed over to women this month.
Some 2 000 chicks will be handed over every month as the project is rolled out and it is expected to run for the next 12 months which means 24 000 chicks would be distributed to the constituency by then.
Each household received 25 chicks and feed for the first month and when the chicken hatch the households are to  give back some eggs which will be taken back to the incubators and the chicks will be passed on to the next households, said Bimha.
He said that the project will benefit the whole constituency.
"This project is not just to address high demand but we want to empower youth and women in a way that will benefit the whole constituency. Development must start at household level then it spreads to the constituency," said Bimha.
