    Thrills at 9th annual Sanganai Children’s Festival


    MASVINGO- Schools from across Masvingo District held their 9th annual Sanganai Children Festival at Central Rukovo High School under Chief Chikwanda where over 2000 spectators who thronged the venue were kept on their feet by captivating performances from the children.
    The festival which saw nine schools participating were meant to enhance the updated curriculum which encourages sports, arts and culture through theatre workshops and performances.
    Three schools have been added on the usual six to make them nine namely Chikwanda Secondary, Daitai Secondary, Rukovo High, Daitai Primary, Zano Primary, Mutya Primary, Uzeze Primary, Mushonga and Harawe Primary School who went on to put up a splendid performance in drama, music and poetry.
    The Festival which started in 2007 is the brainchild of the late musician Epison Ngadya and is aimed at encouraging discussions on economic and social issues through music, art and traditional dance targeting various challenges as drug abuse, environmental degradation, parents in diaspora, child abuse, unemployment, malaria, the corruption, road safety as well as the current cash crisis with each school presenting different themes.
    "The support from the community is overwhelming as witnessed by the attendance of so many villagers and we feel very humbled and honoured by the support the Festival is receiving from the community," remarked Ranganai Rukovo Chief Chikwanda's representative.
    Despite donor fatigue, the schools that comprise the Sanganai Festival managed to put together their resources together as each child contributed 0,50cents towards the prestigious event confirmed Robbie Matambo, Rukovo head as well as the chairman of the festival.
    Loveheart Chadamoyo representing the District Schools Inspector expressed appreciation towards the organisers of the annual extravaganza which also acts as an arts talent identification forum.
