GWERU – A 22-year-old Mberengwa man who committed suicide over salary squabbles with his employer gave an unbelievable condition for his burial demanding that his body be ferried from Gweru to Mberengwa by train.
There is no train between Mberengwa and Gweru.
Garikai Maposa (22) committed suicide on August 13, 2017 over issues that he claimed were known to his employer Emely Gwede. He said in his suicidal note that he wanted his body to be buried besides his grandmother's grave but the body had to be transported to his rural home by rail.
"Kumusha kwedu kuMusumhe kumhiri kwaMundi River paseri paChivugwi Mountain Village Runesu, Ndoda kuvigwa kwedu, kuno NO ndaramba, ndoda kuvigwa padhuze nagogo. (My home area is in Musumhe, across Mundi River and this is behind Chivugwi Mountain in Runesu Village. I don't want to be buried in Gweru. I want to be buried besides my grandmother).
"Chikumbiro changu mondikwidza Chitima, bag rangu musavhura richavhugwa nevekumba kwedu. (My other plea is that my body should go by train and no one should open my bag except my close relatives)," said Maposa.
According to a summary of a sudden death report made to the Police Maposa was working for Gwede at Plot number, 82 Sunrise Farm, Gweru. On August 13, 2017 at around 9am the deceased took his axe and left the homestead without telling anyone where he was going.
His body was discovered hanging from a tree at around 2pm and a Police report was made. Police found two suicidal notes.
Gwede said in a statement that she had only asked the deceased what he was doing with her daughter's satchel. They exchanged harsh words and Maposa ended up demanding his salary.
She said she was shocked that Maposa had committed suicide.local news
