Gweru – A man from Shurugwi was sentenced to nine months in jail for grabbing the buttocks of a female Police officer who had entered a night club while pursuing a suspect.
The accused called out "pano paita musika (a Shona derogatory phrase for good buttocks)".
Andrew James (31) of Manokore Village under Chief Zingwe grabbed a Neighborhood Watch Committee Member's buttocks and although he pleaded guilty, he claimed in court that he was dazzled by flash lights in the club and did not see that the woman was in a Police uniform.
On July 17, 2017 at around 1am the complainant was on duty at Mzansi Night Club where she was pursuing a suspect. She was in the company of another office and he was also in his uniform.
James came towards the complainant and said 'Pano paita musika'.
The complainant ignored James thinking that he was just one drunk man being naughty but was surprised when he went on to grab her buttocks.
The accused went on to fondle the Officer who immediately arrested him.
In court James told Magistrate Tevengwa Sangster that his view was obscured by too much lighting in the club and he did not see the Police colours.
He was sentenced to nine months in jail and three months were suspended on condition he does not repeat the same crime in the next three years.
For the other six months he will perform 210 hours community service at Bethel Primary School.
