Neromwe Chieftainship resuscitated as Madzingo is selected

    •  Contender faints as he opposes new chief's appointment

CHIREDZI – Clemence Madzingo who is a farmer and Zanu PF councillor in Zvimba in Mash West was on Thursday selected as the new Chief Neromwe as the chieftainship which has been in limbo for the last 100 years is resuscitated.
The selection process took place at Masimbaevanhu Secondary School in Chiredzi North on Thursday last week.
The selection which brought finality to the resuscitation of the chieftainship was presided over by a panel of three chiefs consisting of Chief Serima of Gutu, Nemauzhe of Chivi and Maranda of Mwenezi.
Meanwhile Benard Murumbi a member of one of the families opposing the appointment of Madzingo collapsed and fainted as he made his presentation. He blamed the use of juju by families opposed to his views.
Speaking during the process, Chief Serima said his panel was sent by Government to oversee the selection of a chief not to impose. He congratulated the Neromwe clan for being organised in giving them a candidate without making a lot of arguments between the five families involved.
"We are here to be given a person who will become Chief Neromwe and not to select the person. You should thank Government which approved the resuscitation of your chieftainship and I urge you to be united towards this process.
This person will be a substantive chief according to the instructions we have," said Serima.
The Neromwe chieftainship clan has five families Kurera, Chanyururwa, Mangoya, Tinorisa and Chingoma. Madzingo who played a pivotal role in the resuscitation of the chieftainship is from Chanyururwa family and he got a lot of support from the other four families.
Madzingo who is a councillor in Ward 14 Zvimba said he will now relocate back to his rural home to take up the chieftainship fulltime. He said he is happy to become a new chief and will work towards uniting his people and development of his area which is mostly farms and resettlement areas.
"I am happy for the new responsibility. I want to thank Government for reviving our chieftainship and will work to unite all the people under my area without segregation. As a chief I will use an open door policy where all people will be afforded opportunity to be heard. I am a councillor but I will not renew the term in 2018 as I will be here fulltime leading my people" said Madzingo.
