Mahofa prays in her last moments

MASVINGO – The Minister of State for Masvingo, Shuvai Ben Mahofa's last moments before she died were touching.
Mahofa who was sitting in a chair in front of a fire at her house in Rhodhene Low Density Suburb of Masvingo called her daughter Fungai Mahofa at around 3 on Sunday morning and asked her to call a doctor as she was facing breathing problems.
As the daughter sat next to her and made the call, Mahofa started praying. She asked for the Lord to look after her children, she also asked for the Lord to look after the people of Masvingo and she collapsed.
Fungai who narrated the last moments and is a nurse by profession said she tried to resuscitate her mother until the doctor arrived after about 10 minutes. The doctor whisked Mahofa to Makurira Clinic where she was pronounced dead soon after arrival and the death was due to "massive" heart attack.
Fungai said Mahofa had woken up in the wee hours of the morning complaining against breathing problems and cold. She asked for a fire to be made for her. This was barely five hours after her director Kudakwashe Machako who was doing rehearsals with her in preparation for the Heroes Day had left the house.
"She looked well and that night she did rehearsals for Heroes Day with her director and promised to see him the next morning," said Utete.
Born in Chivi on April 4, 1941 Mahofa has been one of the most controversial politicians in Zanu PF to emerge out of Masvingo.  She was regarded as courageous and ruthless at the same time.
She has been at the centre of the province's factional wars from the time of the late Eddison Zvobgo versus Simon Muzenda. She was in the Muzenda camp and Muzenda was her relative.
At the time of her death, Mahofa was central to the Lacoste and G40 fights and she made no apologies for her support for Vice President Mnangagwa in the succession 'war' to replace Mugabe.top story
